The Shire Mum

One of my favourite places in Sutherland Shire: Darook Park

Hello, and thanks for dropping by! My name is Melissa and I am the proud mum of three full-on but absolutely gorgeous boys under the age of 5.

I grew up in ‘The Shire’ and after five years living and working overseas I have returned to my old stomping ground to raise kids of my own with my ‘country boy’ husband.

The energy levels of my boys are seemingly endless… To keep my sanity intact, and my house less of a disaster-zone, I take my boys out on a new adventure (energy-burning exercise?) as often as I can.

I love taking them to the same places I enjoyed as a kid… Darook Park, Camellia Gardens, Cronulla Beach. We also like discovering new places together.

There are so many great playgrounds to explore and fun things to do in the Sutherland Shire and surrounding areas. I have started this blog to write about all these special places I am discovering and rediscovering as a parent. A bit of an ‘Insider’s Guide to The Shire’ if you like. I also write about other random musings about my life with three crazy kids for a bit of therapy.

I hope you take a look around and perhaps share some of your own Shire experiences?

Melissa 🙂

Good luck with the blog! Looking forward to further posts. A couple of things you may wish to (re)explore:

    * Royal National Park is great fun with kids – Wattamolla and Bundeena are perfect for little ones, while the covered dining area at Audley is ideal for running boys around on rainy days. With an annual pass (c$65) it’s also great value.

    * Trainspotting at Jannali (once the Thomas phase arrives). Grab a coffee from Cafe Jolie and some Vickers gingerbread men. Between 11am and 11.30 you’ll get a freight train in either direction to make it extra special.

    • Thank you, and thanks for the tips! I’ll definitely plan in an Audley adventure. I think the last time I was there I was about 6 years old so well overdue for a visit.

I am already a regular at Cafe Jolie with my boys – we love the $5 kids’ shake plus cheese toastie deal, as well as exploring Joyce’s secret garden behind the cafe afterwards 🙂
